Summer challenge to develop love of reading

By Cambrian News reporter in Education

SCHOOLCHILDREN in Llanidloes are being challenged to take part in a Powys library reading challenge this summer.

Animal Agents, this year’s free summer library reading challenge for children aged four to 12, launched on Saturday at Llanidloes Library.

The challenge, which is supported by the National Booktrust Charity, is designed to not only keep children reading over the summer holidays but aims to help them develop a real love of reading too.

Cllr Rachel Powell, portfolio holder for Powys libraries, said: “This fun challenge will support parents in encouraging their children to practice their reading over the holidays.

“It provides both parent and child with a perfect opportunity to connect over books and spend some quality time together.

“Reading not only expands children’s imagination but boosts their literacy skills too.

“Our library staff have stickers, certificates and prizes on offer for those taking part and we also have a free family swim voucher to give away for any Freedom Leisure pool in Powys, valid until 31 October.

“I hope children will take up the challenge and enjoy some fun animal antics over the summer holidays.”
